Pug portraits
A short face and a deep stop read well in flat colour, and equally in a small oil.
The pug’s face is the whole picture. Crop close in the photograph if you can, with both eyes in focus and no flash on the nose.
Pop art reduces the face to a few tones. Classic oil keeps the wrinkles as paint. The studio examples show the first of those; the commission can be either.
