Golden retriever portraits

The coat is already a warm wash. Watercolour and oil both keep it from turning orange.
Studio example. A cocker spaniel in watercolour.
A studio example of Watercolour, shown for the manner rather than as this breed.

A golden coat can become a single tone if the light is hard. The studio prefers a photograph with shade in the feathering, so the chest and the ears stay separate.

Watercolour leaves some of the paper in the feathering. Oil is the choice when the portrait needs a darker room behind it.
